What does a pre-purchase survey cover?
The scope depends on the vessel and the survey agreed. An inspection may include relevant accessible areas of the hull and structure, deck, fittings, accommodation, systems and equipment. For sailing vessels, the agreed scope may also include aspects of the mast and rigging.
The extent of inspection can be affected by access, stored equipment, finishes, vessel configuration and whether the boat is afloat or ashore. Areas that cannot be examined should not be assumed to be defect-free.

A survey is a report on the vessel's condition at the time of inspection. It cannot guarantee that hidden defects are absent or predict every future failure.
