Yacht Rigging and Mast Surveys
Standing rigging, mast fittings and associated components are important parts of a sailing yacht's rig. Their condition, installation, maintenance history and exposure to the elements all warrant consideration when assessing a vessel.
Windermere Yacht Services offers rigging and mast inspection work within an agreed scope, based on the vessel and the inspection requirements.
What may be inspected?
Subject to access and the agreed scope, relevant components may include:
-
Standing rigging and visible wire condition.
-
Terminals, turnbuckles and associated fittings.
-
Mast, spreaders and accessible mast fittings.
-
Chainplates and visible attachment areas.
-
Signs of corrosion, wear, deformation or damage.
-
Accessible evidence of previous repairs or replacement.
The exact inspection will depend on the yacht's configuration and whether components can be safely accessed. A visual inspection cannot establish the condition of every concealed component or reliably determine the remaining service life of all rigging.
Age and replacement considerations
Rigging age, where known, is one consideration alongside observed condition, usage, maintenance history and the manufacturer's or a competent specialist's guidance.
Where documentation is unavailable or concerns are identified, further examination or advice from a suitably qualified rigging specialist may be appropriate.
Arrange a rigging inspection
Please provide the yacht's make and model, approximate length, rig configuration, known rigging age and location. Photographs or previous rigging records can help us understand your requirements.
